This intimate workshop focuses on a group discussion of Tressie McMillan Cottom’s essay, Thick. Author and speaker, Keturah Kendrick, will guide participants through reading an excerpt of the essay. Choosing key words and phrases from the text, Kendrick will then provide participants with writing prompts that encourage thoughtful analysis of the ways in which women are constantly told to “fix themselves” and how that messaging blurs the line between self-actualization and self-dehumanization. Participants will share written responses and be encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts after the workshop ends.
